She has always been a mommas girl. She has always been shy, but secretly loving any attention. She looks to me whenever someone asks her a question. She hides behind me whenever someone pays her a compliment. She shys away from being the center of attention, when really, deep inside it is what she craves. She has been caged by her own inhibitions and insecurities. It's hard to see your daughter have insecurities at such a young age. It is hard to see the sunshine hidden by the clouds of inhibitions. I have wanted desperately to move those clouds and let the world bask in her glow. But I just haven't been able to find a way.But today my daughter found her rainbow.
Today was her very first dance class. She was shy, she was unsure. she moved slowly. she kept looking back at me. She was rigid. Uncomfortable. But after a bit, she loosened. She moved. She stretched. She leaped. She smiled.

She became a dancer.

i am so awesome!
Melanie, you need to write a book! I feel like I could grab some popcorn and a coke (caffeine free, of course) and just sit and be entertained by your blog entries!
By the way, isn't it the coolest, most rewarding thing in the world to finally watch your children find their "voice" and a way to express themselves!?
that is awesome!!
My neighbor has a little girl, who is really painfully shy, she is 9. She never talks to anyone. A few weeks ago she started dance, and seriously she is like a different girl. It's crazy. She has come over to my house with her little sister a few times, and she talks to me and plays with Hayden. It's amazing. Her mom really thinks it is dance that did it.
just let her be BFF with Marlee & she will become a non stop talker, full of enery, for sure not shy, talks to strangers, calls 911, & answers the phone & talks to them for atleast 20 min before giving you the phone... now come on let her be a little shy!!!!!!! :)
She is adorable at dance class & i can totally see her doing that!!
Go Hailey! I'm glad she's found something she enjoys :)
Ok, so i just came from Bri's blog and I was like dude, thats a whole lota mel. And then I come here and Im like wow, thats a whole lota Bri. You ladies are crazy!
I totally believe that Hailey is a natural when it comes to dance. That just seems to fit her personality so perfectly. She better be ready to show of her mad skills when I come back to visit!!
Little girls and dance class are kind of inseparable concepts for me these days. It allows them to become the princesses they have always imagined themselves as, if only for an hour a week. I love that!
I am so excited for Hailey! I bet she is a natural.
Dance made a big difference for me too. I hope I get a daughter someday so she can dance,if not my boys might have to at least try it out.
Your kids are adorable. I hope your teaching her some of your moves. Do you have an email address? If so will you send it my way ---aimee@smithfamilyweb.org
I love this post. It almost made me tear up. I'm glad your daughter is loving dance!! That's awesome... being a mom is freaking awesome. I use that word too much. It's awesome.
How cute. I love little girls in dance. It's funny how it can take them somewhere else, making them see a side they didn't know they had. How cute.
